Foxwood Temple of the Old Religion was founded in 1990 by Lord
Orion. Foxwood is legally incorporated as a recognized religious institution by
the state of Maryland.
We are an initiatory, syncretic, Mystery tradition, drawing from
teachings, lore, and practices based on academic research, networking with
other traditions, and personal gnosis based on experiential interpretation of
lore, not to solely focus on the value of these traditions in isolation, but also
through a focus on integration. Through this work, the threads of Foxwood's
history are blended together into a unified spiritual path, collectively
transmitted as Celtic Traditional Witchcraft or "The Old Religion."
Lord Orion was officially named as one of three mantle carriers
for Lady Circe, a hereditary witch and founder of Sisterhood and Brotherhood of
Wicca in Toledo, as well as Queen of our line several years before her
crossing. Many of our practices serve to honor the spiritual teachings and
ancestry of Lady Circe. You can read more about the life of our Queen here.
First and foremost, Foxwood is a living tradition. Although our
practices are rooted in traditional rites that we carry through the years, the
means of exploring these rites grow and evolve over time. For instance, the
experience of attending a circle with Foxwood will vary every time, however the
core energies, techniques, and logistical concerns maintain continuity of
practice. We believe that this continuity is a strength for our tradition; one
that we honor in our past, practice in our present, and plan for in our future.
The strength of creation comes through its diversity.
Accordingly, Foxwood affirms a doctrine of diversity. Our membership includes
men and women of different ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, financial
status, physical condition/ability, educational levels, occupation, and
relationship/family status. If you feel uncomfortable around people who are
different from you in some way, Foxwood is not likely a place for you to study.
We are all unique, strong-willed individuals who are an exceptionally
tight-knit family. A lack of acceptance of one of us translates to a lack of
acceptance toward all of us.
Although we are a well-established tradition with a strong
membership base, we do welcome new seekers. Should you wish to find out more
information about Foxwood's role as a teaching coven, all sincere seekers age
18 and up are encouraged to contact us. Please see the Path of the Seeker
page for more information or the Contact Us page for
